About the event

Truth In Education:

Panelists will explore the reasons behind (and possible solutions to) some states banning books, eliminating and/or criminalizing Black History subject matter being taught in schools and colleges, and state bans on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education.

Racial Equity:

Workshop participants will discuss the importance of the 1619 Project, the Black Lives Matter Movement, the Black Voters Matter Movement, the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s, and the relevance of other important racial movements on today’s society. We will explore how historical injustices of the past have given rise to contemporary disparities.

Addressing the Issues of Disabled and Other Marginalized people:

In this session, participants will discuss the implications and ramifications of voter suppression on the disabled and other marginalized communities. The panel will dialogue about the effects on the disabled, seniors, and others with mobility and transportation issues of limiting absentee and early voting opportunities. Discussions will also involve the history of the "other"; federal civil rights legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); how it has evolved in the 30 years since its enactment and where it stands today.
